612,411. Sandals. BRITISH BATA SHOE CO.. Ltd., and TUSA, J. July 25, 1944, No. 14187. [Class 17(ii)] The straps forming the upper of a sandal are seamed between the rubber, or rubberlike plastic sole and insole by stitches and an adjustable centre strap slidable on the vamp straps is free at the toe of the sandal so as to leave the vamp straps free. The straps 4, 5, 6, 8 and the insole 3 are assembled with the sole and secured together by stitching 21 extending through the sole 1 from a channel formed in the bottom surface. A centre strap 7 is slotted longitudinally to slide on the vamp straps leaving the toe free. The back strap 8 is preferably reinforced by attaching it to the insole 3 by rivets 18, and ankle straps 9 slide on it. A filler 24, shaped to fit closely around the strap ends, levels the underpart of the insole before the application of the sole. In a modification, the enlarged strap ends 4A &c. are passed through slots 24 in the insole shoulders 4B &c., on the straps holding the straps in the required position. The sole 1 and heel 2 may be pressed together and vulcanized to form an integral unit. Specification 564,960 is referred to.
