PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide 1,2,4,5-cyclohexane tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride having high polymerization capability as a raw material of a polyimide. SOLUTION: The compound 1,2,4,5-cyclohexane tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride is subjected to selective isomerization and to anhydride formation to obtain new (1S,2S,4R,5R)-cyclohexane tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride. The anhydride makes a high-molecular weight substance of a polyimide precursor easily obtainable by being reacted with various diamines. Further, the polyimide obtained by imidization fulfills strikingly high transparency, high heat resistance, sufficient film toughness and very low permittivity. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
