The method involves spreading respective laundry items (20) e.g. flat laundry, from a spreading device (10) i.e. input machine, by spreading a front edge before a feed conveyor (13), where the front edge runs transverse to a feeding direction (11). The laundry items are transported from the feed conveyor to an input conveyor (14) that is guided in the feeding direction. The laundry items include thickening parts (52) e.g. nodes or foreign matter, that are removed by the formation of gap between the feed conveyer and input conveyer or input conveyer and shortage (12). An independent claim is also included for a device for supplying laundry items to the shortage.
