[Class 108 (ii)] An arrangement for compensating for variations in upward thrust on the wheels of vehicles constructed with a central longitudinal girder 11 and swinging half axles 5, 6, 7, 8 comprises bell-crank levers pivoted to the girder frame and having one arm 12a, 13a, 14a, 15a bearing on or linked to a half axle, the other arms being connected, in pairs on opposite side of the frame, through springs 17, 19 and 18, 20 to rods 21, 23 and 22, 24 which are pivoted together and to opposite ends of a cross lever 28 movable about a pivot 29 on the frame. Large upward thrusts on one wheel is transmitted so as to hold down the other wheels, and small sharp thrusts are damped by the springs 17 - 20 and further, if desired by weights 31 attached at the ends of the cross lever 28 to increase its inertia. Instead of bearing on the half axles, the bell crank arms may be linked to lugs thereon by twisted wire cables.</p> |
