A vibratory separator 100 includes a frame 101, a basket 105 disposed on the frame, and at least two rotary motors configured to impart a vibratory motion to the basket in a linear direction. Additionally, the vibratory separator includes at least two adjustable speed drives 109 operatively coupled to the motors to control a vibratory motion imparted to the basket. Also claimed is a method of processing drilling waste including generating a first vibratory motion on a vibratory separator using a first motor coupled to a first adjustable speed drive, and generating a second vibratory motion on a vibratory separator using a second motor coupled to a second adjustable speed drive. Adjusting the first or second vibratory motion may comprise applying a brake to the first or second motor, wherein applying the brake comprises stopping a weight of the first or second motor between 0 and 180 degrees. The first and/or second motion may be a balanced elliptical motion.
