The present invention relates to a sand wedge type golf club, including an elongated shaft, a metal club head, a face plate, and an attachment mechanism. The club head has a wedge body and a hosel. The wedge body has a generally U-shaped frame with a planar front face and a back face. The generally U-shaped frame forms a cavity on the front face of the wedge body. The faceplate includes a ball contact surface and a mounting surface engaging the cavity and having internally threaded female connectors. The ball contact surface is co-planar with front face of the wedge body and has a plurality of grooves formed thereon. The attachment mechanism extends through the generally U-shaped frame to connect the internally threaded female connectors to the wedge body.
