An image processing device and its control method are provided to obtain better discrimination by printing and outputting a black character only through K color, and reduce noise of the black character in performing reproduction. An image input unit(10) reads an image. A black character detecting unit(30) detects an edge region of a black character from the read image. A black character strengthening unit(40) determines whether the edge region is an edge pixel or a background pixel, and corrects pixels at the edge region based on the determination. A post-processing unit(50) obtains a pixel value of the black character. The determination by the black character strengthening unit is based on a threshold value calculated from a maximum value and a minimum value of the pixels of the edge region. The black character detecting unit classifies the black character at a black character region, a background region and the edge region based on the pixel value. |
