The tool has a guide tube (11) with an inner diameter set so that a bolt can slide inside and come into contact with a face of one of two plates (21, 22) to be assembled. A striker (12) in the form of a solid cylinder slides within the tube and contacts with a head (14) of the bolt. The lengths of the tube and the striker are defined such that the striker is brought into contact with the head of a rod (13) of the bolt while the rod is inserted in a connecting orifice (19) under the action of insertion force transmitted by the striker and until the rod is completely penetrated in the opening. An independent claim is also included for a method for setting a fastener for assembling plates of composite material.
