<p>PURPOSE: An apparatus for generating sound effect in a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to generate the sound effect similar to real-writing, when the user inputs information to the portable terminal using an input device. CONSTITUTION: A sensor unit (1005) senses input. A control unit (1001) checks a writing tool used in the input and a displayed write surface. A sound output part (1006) outputs sound when the writing tool inputs to the write surface. A display unit (1003) displays the quality of at least more than one write surface, the kinds of the write surfaces and the colors of the write surfaces. The display unit combines the quality of the selected write surface, the kind of the write surface, and he color of the write surface. The display part displays a write surface in which the quality, the kind and the color are combined.
