DILATATION OF THE MEDULLARY CAVITY FOR INTRAMEDULLARY PIN FIXATION OF METACARPAL/METATARSAL BONE OR PHALANGEAL BONE FRACTURES

摘要

PURPOSE: Surgical procedure for the enlargement of a bone-marrow cavity for intramedullary nailing in case of the fracture of a spine and bones of legs and paws of a small animal is provided to work out a way to the enlargement of a bone-marrow cavity for intramedullary nailing in case of the fractures of bones in which intramedullary nailing is hard, thereby inducing the stabilization of the fractured portion. CONSTITUTION: Surgical procedure for the enlargement of a bone-marrow cavity (2) for intramedullary nailing in case of the fracture of a thin and long bone of a small animal includes the following steps of: expanding the bone-marrow cavities of distal and proximal bone pieces of the fractured thin and long bone; securing a K-wire insertion space by reaming up until a part of a cortical bone in case that the diameter of the whole bone is very small; fixating the fractured bone by intramedullary nailing after completing the enlargement.
