PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a delivery system comprising a polymer-based nanoparticle for use as a release medium of an agent.SOLUTION: A delivery system comprises: (i) a polymer-based nanoparticle that is not an emulsion; and (ii) a linker comprising a first portion non-covalently anchored to the nanoparticle, wherein at least part of the first portion comprises a lipophilic segment embedded in the nanoparticle; and a second portion comprising a maleimide compound exposed at the outer surface of the nanoparticle. A specific example for a linker is preferably one selected from octadecyl-4-(maleimidomethyl)cyclohexane-carboxylic amide; N-1 stearyl-maleimide; succinimidyl oleate; 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-N-[maleimide(polyethylene glycol)2000]; and mixtures thereof.
