Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and an apparatus for harmonic state estimation in a power system. The method 5 comprises: collecting network topology structure information corresponding to a power system; collecting measurement point position information in the power system; collecting measurement point harmonic information in the power system; performing network topology observability analysis according to the network topology structure information, the measurement point to position information and the measurement point harmonic information so as to determine an observable range in the current power system; determining harmonic state parameters corresponding to the current power system according to the observable range in the power system. The present invention realizes optimal configuration of measurement points upon demands of 15 different users and solves the problems in the prior art of complicated algorithm, great amount of computation and the neglect that the measurement device has an ability to measure the voltage and current at the same time by introducing a suspicious harmonic injection node into the observability analysis logical judgment method and using a recursive algorithm to realize 20 the whole-network analysis.
