The device (13) has a control unit for determination of a group (G1) of thread feed apparatuses. The control unit provides supplied yarn lengths and/or production variables of the group and/or other groups (G3, G5) and controls the knitting machine if necessary. The control unit determines the production variables, which describe ratios of the yarn lengths supplied by different delivery types of the thread feed apparatuses or parameters derived from the production variables and is adjusted if necessary for controlling the knitting machine. The thread feed apparatuses are designed as a storage thread feed apparatus (2), a voltage-controlled thread feed apparatus (3) and a positive thread feed apparatus (4a). An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring production of a knitting machine.
