PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively producing a bisphenol compound useful as a raw material of a polymer material and having an acenaphthene skeleton.SOLUTION: A bisphenol compound represented by formula (2) and having an acenaphthene skeleton is obtained in a high purity and in a high yield by reacting acenaphthenequinone and a phenol compound in the presence of a hydrochloric acid catalyst. In the formula (2), Ris an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group or a cycloalkyl group; Ris a 1-6C alkylene group; n is an integer of 0 to 5; m is an integer of 1 to 3, p is an integer of 0 to 4, provided that m+p≤5; the plurality of R1 and R2 may be identical or different. |
