Provided is a composition for improving the resistance to environmental stress of a plant, the active ingredient of which has been clarified and, therefore, which is applicable to a plant that is required to be highly safe, such as an edible plant, and can impart a stable effect. The composition for improving the resistance to environmental stress of a plant comprises as the active ingredient at least one member selected from sanguinarine represented by formula (I) and a salt thereof.
