<p>Provided are: a transmitter, which is capable of transmitting a plurality of signals using a single light source in optical multiplex communication; and a communication system. An optical fiber section (11) forms a main optical path (L). A first modulation means (31) is provided on the main optical path (L), and a second modulation means (32) is provided in the downstream of the first modulation means. The first modulation means (31) is provided with a refractive index variable section, and the refractive index of the refractive index variable section changes corresponding to voltages applied thereto as first signals. The first modulation means (31) branches a part of light in the main optical path (L) from the main optical path (L) corresponding to the refractive index change in the refractive index variable section, thereby modulating the light.</p> |
