THE MANUFACTURING METHOD OF ZIRCONIUM SPONGE USING SELF-PROPAGATING HIGH TEMPERATURE SYNTHESIS

<p>PURPOSE: A method using self-propagating high temperature synthesis method for manufacturing a zirconium sponge is provided to melt a metal reducing agent with initial ignition heat and to rapidly manufacture zirconium by a reaction of the molten metal reducing agent and chloride zirconium without an additional heat supply. CONSTITUTION: A method using self-propagating high temperature synthesis method for manufacturing a zirconium sponge is as follows. A self-propagating high temperature synthesis of a raw material including zirconium tetrachloride and a metal reducing agent is performed. Pellets of a sintered body shape are manufacture of the zirconium sponge and metal reducing agent chloride after the self-propagating high temperature synthesis. The metal reducing agent chloride and a surplus metal reducing agent are removed by using an acid leaching process so that the zirconium sponge is obtained.</p>
