A solid state imaging element according to an embodiment of the present invention is provided with a plurality of pixels (R, Gr, Gb, B,...) arranged in rows and columns, read-out signal lines (401, 402) connected to the plurality of pixels arranged in the row direction, and output signal lines (403, 404, 405, 406) connected to the plurality of pixels arranged in the column direction. Each pixel is read out during a first exposure time or a shorter second exposure time, and the pixels are split between the first read-out signal lines (401), which are connected to groups of pixels having the first exposure time, and second read-out signal lines (402), which are connected to groups of pixels having the second exposure time. A first read-out signal line and a second read-out signal line are shared respectively by pairs of horizontally adjacent pixels having the first exposure time and pairs of horizontally adjacent pixels having the second exposure time in two lines of horizontal pixels adjacent in the vertical direction.
