PURPOSE: A printer is provided to prevent the printer from being jammed as a gap between a medium and a print head, which is for transferring the medium, is sufficiently formed by the structure that a printer unit waits by being avoided from a printing position while being transferred in X and Y axial directions. CONSTITUTION: A printer includes a pair of guide bars (102), a first carriage (104), a second carriage (106), a return spring, a print unit (110), a platen (112), and a driving device (120). The guide bars are mounted to be parallel to each other, thereby being adjacent to a track (30) for transferring a medium (2). The first carriage reciprocates from a first position adjoining to one end portion of the guide bars to a second position printing the medium along the guide bars. The second carriage mounted on the first carriage is transferred in the X-axial direction with the first carriage and reciprocates from a third position retracted from the medium in the Y-axial direction orthogonal to the X-axial direction to a fourth position near to the medium. The return spring applies an elastic power to the second carriage so that the second carriage is moved in a direction retracted from the medium. The print unit is mounted on the second carriage to print the medium. The platen faces the print unit and is arranged on the track to support a check. The driving device provides a driving force for transferring the first carriage along the guide bars. |
