A METHOD FOR IN-VITRO EXPANSION OF ERYTHROID CELLS

PURPOSE: A method for in-vitro expansion of erythroid cells is provided to obtain large amount of concentrated erythrocytes which are useful in clinical trials by using small containers of a test tube sized bioreactor. CONSTITUTION: A method for in-vitro expansion of erythroid cells comprises the following step: culturing erythrocyte based cells in high density in order to directly and physically contact cells, or culturing under the presence of ICAM-4 proteins. The erythrocyte based cells are cells after a terminal maturation step. The high density culturing comprises 100-200% of confluence. The erythrocyte based cells which are directly and physically contacted between the cells express one or more genes among density adhesion associated gene DCL-1, ICAM-4 and VLA-4.
