The present invention relates to agents that inhibit FOX04 function and uses thereof in treating cancer and/or removing senescent cells in an individual. In some embodiments, the agent that inhibits FOX04 is a peptide that inhibits FOX04 function in a cell, wherein the peptide comprises an amino acid sequence that has at least 80% identity to a fragment of the FOX04 (e.g., a fragment of SEQ ID NO:l). In some embodiments, the agent is a peptide comprising an amino acid sequence that has at least 80% identity to a fragment in the DNA binding domain of FOX04 (e.g., a fragment of SEQ ID N0:2). In some embodiments, the agent is a peptide comprising an amino acid sequence that has at least 80% identity to a fragment in the C-terminal region of FOX04 (e.g., a fragment of SEQ ID N0:3).
