Embodiments of the present invention provide a load control method and device for a wireless communication system. The method comprises: when a load of a first communication system is higher than a set threshold, the first communication system sending an overload notification message to a second communication system (21); and the second communication system stopping sending any message to the first communication system according to indication information in the overload notification message, or sending a message of a specific priority and/or a specific category to the first communication system (22). By using the embodiments of the present invention, when the first communication system is overloaded, the second communication system stops sending any message to the first communication system according to the indication information in the overload notification message, or sends the message of the specific priority and/or the specific category to the first communication system. Therefore, the load of the first communication system is alleviated by reducing messages sent to the first communication system.
