The method involves transforming (31) a section of the image into polar coordinates, which comprise radial values and angular values. A quantitative value is determined for the change of section in the radial direction. The quantitative value is used as a measure for the intensity of ring artifacts. The quantitative value for the change of section is determined by numerical differentiation of the section in the radial direction. The numerical derivatives are formed (32) for a fixed angular value along the radial value. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a device for quantification of ring artifacts for an image of an examined object; and (2) a computer program stored in a computer program product for executing the method.
