PURPOSE: An apparatus for recovering iron in the dust and a controlling method thereof are provided to recover iron contained in the dust discharged from the steel mill, thereby increasing the recovery rate of iron. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for recovering iron in the dust comprises: a housing (110) into which dust flows; an electromagnetic rotator (120) which is rotatively disposed inside the housing to allow the iron contained in the dust to stick thereto; and a fan (130) which allows the dust to flow into the housing. A controlling method of the apparatus for recovering iron in the dust comprises: operating a fan to suck the dust into a housing; rotating an electromagnetic rotator to allow the iron contained in the dust to stick to the electromagnetic rotator; and cutting the power supply from the electromagnetic rotator to recover the iron sticking to the electromagnetic rotator.
