The method involves carrying out energy input by heating and/or irradiation into an object (1) or a material or a polymer material. An indicator element (6) is formed with a chemical compound whose luminescence properties reversibly or irreversibly change during treatment. The compound is irradiated with electromagnetic radiation for excitation of luminescence during or in connection with the treatment. A comparison with a determined reference value and/or reference wavelength or reference wavelength spectrum is performed to find whether preset energy input is carried out during the treatment. An independent claim is also included for a system for non-destructive monitoring or detection of implementation of treatment.
