The device (1) has a cover (5) placed on a high-voltage insulating housing (2) and forming supporting regions by which the cover is supported on the housing when the cover is placed on the housing. Sealing agents are arranged at the supporting regions. A clamping unit (8) clamps the cover at the housing, so that a gas-tight clamping seat is provided. The cover comprises a gas filling valve (19) by which a sealed gas chamber is filled with counter-pressure gas, where the sealed gas chamber is delimited by the housing and the cover. An independent claim is also included for a method for retroactively sealing a high-voltage insulating housing that is filled with insulating gas.
