The magnets are arranged in a flow direction of the liquid. The liquid passes through an opening in the standard ring magnet or the nanoring magnet. The standard ring magnet and the nanoring magnet form a pair of magnets spaced apart from each other. The apparatus further comprises a separator (24) provided between pairs of magnets (16). The standard ring magnet is arranged parallel to the nanoring magnet within the pair of magnets. The pair of magnets is disposed at an angle of 45[deg] C with respect to a longitudinal axis of the housing. The nanoring magnet comprises compartments. Each of the compartments is made of different material. An independent claim is included for a method for patterning cluster compounds in fluids.</p>
