PURPOSE: An audio signal receiver and a method for receiving an audio signal restore a signal of a high band to get a better audio signal. CONSTITUTION: A converting unit (4) converts a low band audio signal into a frequency band. A bandwidth extension unit (5) generates at least extension modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) coefficient as information for a high band audio signal from the low band audio signal converted by the converting unit. A smoothing unit (7) smoothes the extension MDCT coefficient. A reconversion unit (8) reconverts the extension MDCT coefficient smoothed by the smoothing unit. A combiner (9) combines the low band audio signal and a restored high band audio signal reconverted by the reconversion unit and outputs a wide band audio signal.
