PURPOSE: A metal detector is provided to prevent malfunction by surroundings. CONSTITUTION: A metal detector comprises a transceiver, a first panel (10), a second panel (20), and a controller (100). The first panel comprises a first transceiver. The second panel comprises a second transceiver and is arranged to be faced with the first panel. The upper side of the second panel is opened. The controller sets up a sensing mode which divides metal passing through the first panel and the second panel into steel and nonferrous metal and detects it. The controller detects the steel and the nonferrous metal in a first sensing mode at the same time and detects the nonferrous metal to the exclusion of the steel in a second sensing mode.
