PURPOSE: An organic compound is provided to have superior thermal stability and phosphorescent properties, thereby being applied to a light emitting layer of an organic electroluminescent device. CONSTITUTION: A compound is denoted by chemical formula 1. An organic electroluminescent device comprises an anode, a cathode, and one or more organic layers inserted between the anode and the cathode. At least one of the organic layers contains the compound. The organic layer containing the compound is a light emitting layer.
