PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and an alignment film material are provided to increase an order parameter by increasing anchoring intensity. CONSTITUTION: An opposing electrode (108) is formed on an entire surface. A diagonal-patterned pixel electrode (110) is formed on the opposing electrode. A slit (112) is formed between diagonal patterns. An image signal is supplied to the pixel electrode. A display device uses an in plane switching (IPS) method.
