PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable prioritized scanning beginning with physical channels having high reception possibility.SOLUTION: A digital broadcast receiving device comprises: an intra-area presence index identification processing unit 107 which determines for each broadcast area an intra-area presence index indicating a level of possibility that the device is present in a given broadcast area; a reception possibility index identification processing unit 108 which identifies a physical channel with highest reception possibility based on the intra-area presence index of a broadcast area where physical channels are used and a transmission output value at a broadcast station included in the broadcast area where physical channels are used; an information separation confirmation processing unit 109 which performs the processing of confirming the identified physical channel; and an intra-area presence index update processing unit 110 which, in response to the result of confirmation by the information separation confirmation processing unit 109, identifies a broadcast area in which the device has high possibility of presence and increments the intra-area presence index of the identified broadcast area.
