PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure which has a joining material layer having stress mitigation function and joining strength which are equal to or higher than those of a joining material layer of a conventional honeycomb structure, and which has excellent thermal shock resistance.SOLUTION: A honeycomb structure 1 includes a honeycomb segment joined body 10 in which a plurality of honeycomb segments 2 are integrally joined by mutual joining surfaces via a joining material layer 9, and has a configuration in which a plurality of cells 5 to become through channels of a fluid are arranged in parallel with one another along a central axis direction. In the honeycomb structure, the joining material layer 9 contains, as aggregates, inorganic particles, and acicular crystal particles having a shot content ratio of <10 mass%, and the acicular crystal particles include ≥80 mass% acicular crystal particles having an average length of 20 to 500 μm in a long axis direction thereof. As the inorganic particles, silicon carbide, cordierite, alumina, zirconia, yttria or the like can be used, and as natural acicular minerals, sepiolite, wollastonite, palygorskite or the like can be used. |
