PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that any of the conventional capacitive or two-bobbin type and a Hall sensor type torque sensor has a large number of components, is complicated in structure, requires high costs, increases the frequency of break down, and is hard to repair.SOLUTION: A steering assist device includes: a torque sensor 4 for detecting a torsional torque of torsion bar 3 located in the midst of a steering shaft 2; a steering assist mechanism 9 for adding a steering assist torque to a steering shaft; a motor 8 for giving a drive force to the steering assist mechanism; a motor drive circuit 7 for driving a motor according to a motor control signal; and a steering assist control circuit 6 for generating a motor control signal corresponding to the steering assist torque based on the detected torque by the torque sensor. The torque sensor 4 has an electrode 11a mounted on an upper side axial portion and an electrode 11b mounted on a lower side axial portion of the torsion bar oppositely arranged, and is constituted of a variable capacitor 10 which varies in an electrostatic capacitance by the relative rotation of opposing electrodes accompanied with the torsion of the torsion bar. |
