PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition which is reduced in the recovery time from abnormal lighting by static electricity to normal state without largely reducing specific resistance, is satisfactorily compatible, has a fast response rate in a wide temperature range, and is thus suitably used to obtain a liquid crystal element of high display quality, with respect to a liquid crystal composition having negative dielectric constant anisotropy to be used in an operation mode using vertical orientation, and a liquid crystal element using the liquid crystal composition.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal composition contains: a compound represented by the following formula (A) in an amount of 30 mass% or more, and a non-ionic surfactant (B) having both perfluoroalkyl and ethyleneoxy groups.
