PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of setting the additional amount in consideration of an edge shape, and supporting smooth gradation change; an image display device; and an image pickup device.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus detects an edge of an input image, and adjusts a pixel value of an edge emphasis processing target pixel to obtain an output image having an emphasized edge. The image processing apparatus includes: a brightness gradient calculation unit 12 that calculates brightness gradient of pixels in the periphery of the edge emphasis processing target pixel; an addition amount calculation unit 13 that calculates an edge shape from the brightness gradient, and calculates an edge emphasis addition amount to the edge emphasis processing target pixel according to the edge shape; and an emphasis image creating unit 14 that adds the edge emphasis addition amount to an input image to obtain an output image. |
