PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a density detection device and an image forming apparatus capable of acquiring an accurate image density by correcting a light amount reflected from a density detection image detected by a light amount detection part even when output characteristics of the light amount detection part deviates from output characteristics of standard detection equipment.SOLUTION: A density detection device comprises: image forming means for forming on an image holding body a plurality of density detection images having different gradations; measuring means for measuring at least one of reflection light amount of a reference plate and reflection light amount of the image holding body, gradually changing measurement conditions, and for respectively measuring reflection light amounts of the plurality of density detection images formed on the image holding body under prescribed measurement conditions; storage means for storing the reflection light amounts measured under the plurality of measurement conditions according to gradations of the density detection images as a plurality of reference values; and density acquiring means for acquiring a detection density of a density detection image of a measurement target according to a reflection light amount of the density detection image of the measurement target and a reference value corresponding to a gradation of the density detection image. |
