PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid generation of a drift current in a submerged nozzle without attenuating a swirling flow in a drawn part of a sliding gate, regardless of imparting the swirling flow to molten metal on the upstream side of the sliding gate.SOLUTION: In a continuous casting method, a swirling flow is imparted to molten steel 4 to be supplied to a submerged nozzle 3 by passing the molten steel 4 in a tundish 2 from an entry-side opening 1aa opened to an outer surface side of a side hole 1a formed in a sidewall of a hollow refractory-made structure 1 toward an exit-side opening 1ab opened to an inner surface side. An opening area S(cm) in casting the sliding gate 5 performing flow rate control is made to be at least 0.4 relative to a full-open opening area So (cm), and a relation Q/So between the opening area So and a supply amount Q(ton/min) of the molten steel 4 is made to be at least 0.06 and not more than 0.20. Flow stability of the molten steel in a mold and non-metallic inclusion cleaning can be attained while eliminating nozzle clogging to allow a stable continuous casting operation and upgrading of a cast slab. |
