PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a purified phenol in a short time efficiently using a sulfonic acid type cation exchange resin to a phenol-based compound containing impurities such as acetol.SOLUTION: A porous cation exchange resin having a crosslinking degree of ≤6.0% is used as a sulfonic acid type cation exchange resin. In the porous cation exchange resin having a crosslinking degree of ≤6.0%, a phenol-based compound and impurities readily diffuse into the inside of the resin. Consequently, the reactivity between the phenol-based compound and the impurities in a cation exchange resin is high in comparison with a gel type cation exchange resin in which the reaction progresses mainly on a resin surface, thereby being capable of effectively producing refined phenol. |
