The equipment (10) has an evaluation and control unit connected with a laser source, a laser light detector and angle blades. The evaluation and control unit automatically controls user-side selected lines. A virtual surface is defined by a selected line and as a vertical preset direction. A subset of space points (1-4) is selected from a space point amount, which lies within a buffer zone surrounding the defined virtual surface. An elevation representation of the space points belonging to the subset is indicated on a display.
