PURPOSE: An antibacterial composition containing a light-irradiated material of a Sophora japonica L. extract or a fraction thereof is provided to show an antibacterial activity against methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus. CONSTITUTION: An antibacterial pharmaceutical composition contains a light-irradiated material of a Sophora japonica L. extract or a fraction thereof as an active ingredient. An antibacterial cleansing composition contains the light-irradiated material as an active ingredient. A cosmetic composition contains the light-irradiated material as an active ingredient. The extract or the fraction thereof is irradiated at 2000-18000 lux for 1-24 hours.
