PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal cycler which allows the temperature of a thermal conductor to reach a set temperature in a short time.SOLUTION: A thermal cycler 200 includes: a mounting part 10 which mounts a reaction container 15 filled with a reaction liquid and a liquid having a specific gravity different from that of the reaction liquid and immiscible with the reaction liquid, and including a passage where the reaction liquid moves along its inner walls facing each other; a temperature gradient forming part which, when the reaction container 15 is mounted to the mounting part 10, forms a temperature gradient with respect to the passage in the movement direction of the reaction liquid; and a drive mechanism 30 which rotates the mounting part 10 and the temperature gradient forming part around a rotary shaft having a component vertical to a gravity acting direction and a component vertical to a direction where the reaction liquid moves in the passage when mounting the reaction container 15 to the mounting part 10. The part for forming temperature gradient includes a first heat radiation part 261, a first thermal conductor 221 which heats a first area of the passage to a first temperature, and a second thermal conductor 222 which heats a second area of the passage to a second temperature. |
