PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a scanning lens for determining the margin of the width of a scanning lens in the sub-scanning direction under the consideration of the characteristics of a scanning optical system to be used.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a scanning lens is a method for manufacturing a scanning lens composed of plastic having a slender shape in the main scanning direction of a scanning optical system to be used, and includes calculating the sum of a beam diameter (a) in a sub-scanning direction and margin (2b) as width (h) in a sub-scanning direction of the scanning lens, and increasing the margin in accordance with the sub-magnification ratio of the scanning optical system.
