The device (11) has a Hall effect sensor (16) connected to a microcontroller (17) and a transmitter/receiver (15) that transmits or receives data or power supply through an antenna (14). A metal piece (13) is placed near the Hall effect sensor to limit the power consumption of the Hall effect sensor when the electronic device is in a standby mode. The Hall effect sensor triggers the microcontroller, by detecting magnetic fields created by a magnet, to control the power supply to a peripheral device via the antenna, and communicate with the peripheral device through the transmitter/receiver. An independent claim is also included for a peripheral device.
