Preparing semi-aromatic polyester (PESA) powder or PESA, comprises forming a molten mixture comprising at least PESA and at least an additive (X) that is a block copolymer comprising at least a block A compatible with the PESA and at least a water soluble block B, where X is a AB or BAB type to obtain a discrete particle dispersion including the PESA, cooling the mixture at a temperature that is less than a softening temperature of the PESA, and treating the cooled mixture to cause the separation of the discrete particles including the PESA. An independent claim is included for PESA powder or PESA obtained by the method.
