The engine has an actuation assembly for actuating valves (50, 60) according to a sequence of openings and closings of the valves such that exhaust gases are stored in a storage container (62) and reintroduced in a cylinder (10). The sequence is operated such that an operation of storage of the gases in one of the container and an additional storage container (72), and an operation of reintroduction of the gases in the container to the cylinder are separated from each other by an operation of reintroduction of the gases from the other container to the cylinder. An independent claim is also included for a method for storing and reintroducing exhaust gases of a combustion engine of a car.
