Use of a chromophore compound for quantifying, optimizing and/or validating washing and/or rinsing cycles of instruments and/or equipment washing disinfector, is claimed. Independent claims are included for: (1) a detergent and/or disinfecting composition comprising a surfactant and an alkaline agent, and the chromophore compound; (2) a kit for preparing the composition comprising the composition and the chromophore compound; and (3) quantifying, optimizing and/or validating washing and/or rinsing cycles of instruments and/or equipment washing disinfector comprising washing instruments and/or equipment with the composition, rinsing water optionally including one or more film forming agent, drying, and determining, by physicochemical analysis, the residual quantity of chromophore compound on instruments and equipments containing the washing disinfector and/or in wastewater.
