This digital camera is provided with: an imaging element that images a subject; a finder device through which a subject image formed by an objective optical system can be observed from an eyepiece window; and a control unit. In an OVF mode whereby the subject image is observed from the eyepiece window, the control unit estimates the position of a high-brightness subject with respect to a subject observation range formed by the objective optical system, and performs control that alters the image visible from the eyepiece window in accordance with the distance between the estimated position of the high-brightness subject and the subject observation range of the objective optical system.
