PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for controlling width of material to be rolled, by which a material to be rolled and a rolled plate after finish rolling work can be prevented from generating width minus and, in this way, the width accuracy of a rolled product after rolling to the width which is required to the rolled product is improved and also the width of the rolled product is unified over the entire length of the product.SOLUTION: A device 1 for controlling the width of a material to be rolled is a device for controlling the width of the material 20 to be rolled by using a sizing press apparatus 13 and provided with a control part 5 for controlling the sizing press apparatus 13. During a period when the tip end of the material 20 to be rolled is projected to the outlet side of the sizing press apparatus 13, the control part 5 performs the width press of the material 20 to be rolled by changing the opening degree of dies of the sizing press apparatus 13 and controls the sizing press apparatus 13 so as to form a plurality of level difference parts for reducing the width of the material 20 to be rolled to the target width of the material 20 to be rolled from the side of the tip end of the material 20 to be rolled toward the side of a tail end. |
