The purpose of the present invention is to provide a honeycomb filter that is capable of achieving both high collection efficiency and low pressure loss. This honeycomb filter is provided with: a ceramic honeycomb substrate having a large number of cells for circulating a fluid, said cells being arranged in rows in the longitudinal direction with cell walls therebetween, and a sealed end section on either the side where fluid enters the cells or on the side where fluid exits the cells; and a filtration layer that, among the surfaces of the abovementioned cell walls, is formed on the surfaces of the cell walls of the cells where the end section on the side where the fluid enters is open, and where the end on the side where the fluid exits is sealed by a sealant. The honeycomb filter is characterized in that the thickness of the filtration layer gradually becomes thicker from the side where the fluid enters to the side where the fluid exits.
